I hope you’re all having a great February so far, I’ve been busy working on new portrait paintings, new animation commissions (that I’ll share with you in a few weeks time), and this brand new typography illustration that I’m showcasing today!
Alongside my illustration portfolio, I want typography illustration to be a major part of my portfolio, as I really enjoy receiving typography commissions, and I hope this continues! I feel I’m beginning to find my ‘typographic voice’ (if there is one) within my portfolio, and I wanted to add to this.
How I Developed This Typography Illustration
I began this personal project looking at various quotes that I wanted to illustrate, and chose a quote that I had a lot of ideas for, that I can brainstorm, think about, and create an illustration that I’m happy with.
After looking at a lot of quotes, I decided to choose the quote;
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” – Theodore Roosevelt
I loved the quote as it really jumped out at me, that I could play and get creative with. Working in my sketchbook, which you can see below, I worked out how the type will sit on the image, it’s composition, and it’s colour. This is a really enjoyable part of the project as it allows me to be creative and see how the illustration will look.
Following from this, I produced a final pen drawing of the quote, and scanned this into Adobe Photoshop to add colour, texture and complete the typography illustration. The illustration focuses on a limited colour palette of blue, orange and white, and I’m really happy with it.
It was a really enjoyable personal project, and I hope you like it! You can see the detail images below, including an exclusive look at my sketchbook development too! This typographic illustration is now brand new on my portfolio, woop woop!
