I hope you’re having a great January and 2016 so far, this month is going by too quickly in my opinion! On top of my various illustration and animation commissions I’ve had recently, I’ve been busy drawing, jotting down ideas and referencing from my sketchbook, which I can show you January’s sketchbook update.
Away from illustrated maps, editorial illustration or book cover designs, drawing within my sketchbook has always been an active, passionate and daily activity for me. I find that drawing allows me to be as expressive and ‘loose’ as I wish, and has certainly helped me to improve my illustrations over the past few years! So if I find it fun, and it also helps me improve my art, then I’m definitely sold!
A sketchbook is the place where I can draw what I want, in whatever style I want – sounds selfish doesn’t it haha! Within my sketchbook, I always tend to revert to my natural interest of portraits, as I find them very interesting to illustrate, as no face is ever the same!
Below you can see my drawings from a busy January, that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Alfred Hitchcock, and also David Bowie and Alan Rickman – who were big legends of mine! They will be sadly missed, and especially Alan for his brilliant voice!
