Haydn was asked by Hampshire based author Piers Husband to produce a book cover illustration and design for his new book, ‘Thus Urizen Spoke: The Coin, the Raven and the Beat of the Drum’.
Created with gouache, watercolour and digital, the book tells a spooky tale of two young siblings who are brought up in New Cross, however this village is not like any other village. Its small church had once been a place where Ancient Roman Gods have congregated, and the pair are drawn into an ancient battle and an old entrance, where the story unfolds.
This book cover illustration focuses on 1 of the main characters; the raven. Haydn used a limited colour of red in particular to communicate the demonizing and overpowering character, overlooking the 2 children below.
