I painted this Taylor Swift canvas portrait painting in gouache, beginning with a pencil sketch outlining the key shapes and details, also combining brush pens, oil pastels and colour pencils.
I began with a pencil sketch and a grid to map out the proportions accurately. Then I built up the painting in stages, using shapes and blocks of colour to form the structure before refining the details in the final layers.
The portrait moves from simple foundations to a realistic likeness of this famous singer. The texture of the gouache adds depth and variation, while the step-by-step approach shows the patience and observation behind the process.
For anyone interested in technique and how I painted this Taylor Swift canvas portrait painting, this video shows how I work โ starting with a sketch, layering colour gradually, and finishing with detail to bring the portrait together.
