Following from my previous figurative post, I wanted to try my hand at at another figurative painting, and paint something new. Like last time, I grabbed an image from a magazine and basically painted what I saw. I’ve always been meaning to paint on something different than my normal watercolour paper, so this time I’ve painted on gray card. It’s been sitting in my studio for a while now, and it’s been crying out for some attention, so I thought today was that day! I discovered however that this surface was difficult and challenging to paint onto. When you start building up the paint initially, the paint soaks into the card and it’s quite hard to build that first paint layer, but once your past the first twenty to thirty minutes, you begin to start building up the layers. The advantage of using card, is that watery paint doesn’t make the card wrinkle or curve, which paper always does. Overall it was a good experiment to try, but I don’t think I’ll be painting on it again in the near future, it uses a lot of paint!
Many thanks for listening and visiting my news page today. You can follow what I’m up to on my Twitter, Facebook or Google + pages, I’ll really appreciate it if you do, and don’t be afraid to say hi to me! Many thanks again, and have a great day!
