Hey guys! How is everyone doing? It’s been a busy few months for me, as I’ve been traveling with my brother around South East Asia and Australia (I’m still available for freelance work though!). Away from traveling, I’m excited to show a new illustration commission; an Wales map illustration that I was asked to produce for a wedding invitation.
I’m a big fan of illustrated maps, and if you are familiar with my illustration work, you would know how heavily maps are featured within my portfolio. From Brussels, Singapore, to this new Wales map illustration, I love how you can represent one place within an illustration.
I usually illustrate things to do around a particular area, as this is useful for tourists and those new to a city, town or village. Adapting this to suit the commission and it’s requirements.
For this illustrated map, I was asked to illustrate the local sights around Wales. Featuring the picturesque Tenby, coastal Aberystwyth to the rolling hills of Brecon Beacons. I particularly love Aberystwyth, and if you haven’t been before, it’s worth checking out!
Linking to the woodland surroundings of the wedding venue, the map was created with pencil and digital.
Partnering with a Graphic Designer who worked on the typography for the invite, it was important my illustrations cohere with the design work. I believe they suit each other well (and I hope you do too!), and really love their hand made typography!
It was a great project to work on, and I’m really happy with how it looks on the light brown (and rounded – ooo!) card. You can see more images of the illustrated map below, or check it out on my illustration portfolio.
Alternatively, send me a message on social media or post a comment below if you like the project, I would love to hear from you!
Many thanks for listening and visiting my news page today. You can follow what I’m up to on my Twitter, Facebook or Google + pages, I’ll really appreciate it if you do, and don’t be afraid to say hi to me! Many thanks again, and have a great day!
