Hey guys, how’s it going? I’m happy to announce that myself and Mat Klicz’s Animal Farm illustrations are going to be in a book in late 2018!
I’m super stoked by this, and not only was it great to work with Mat, we have this great announcement too! After promoting the designs on social media, the author approached me, which I wasn’t expecting at all!
We created currency designs based on George Orwell’s classic, Animal Farm, that were created with watercolour, gouache and edited digitally. These Animal Farm illustrations were then passed to Mat to embed into his designs – he’s done an amazing job!
Whilst researching the novel, we looked at the link between dictatorships and the Soviet Union in particular, showing the power and authority of the farm characters. This power struggle is especially shown within the pig characters, which is included in our designs.
Showcasing the Animal Farm illustrations below, I have also included my sketchbook development; something that I didn’t show within the last post! I always start any commission in my sketchbook, drawing thumbnails, researching and mind mapping.
This is a crucial element within my illustration process as it helps me think outside the box. Of course I don’t always think of good ideas, some of them are just for my sketchbook! *wink face*
Published by Bloomsbury, it’s going to be about one of my favourite subjects; illustration! I presume (because I don’t know much about the book yet), that our designs will be discussed within the book. I will let you know more about these Animal Farm illustrations book feature closer to the time.
I am super happy by this announcement, and I hope you enjoy the illustrations below!
In other news, I have been working on new illustrations, including a map of Hong Kong. This was a great illustration to work on, which showcases the attractions of the city.
Many thanks for listening and visiting my news page today. You can follow what I’m up to on my Twitter, Facebook or Google + pages, I’ll really appreciate it if you do, and don’t be afraid to say hi to me! Many thanks again, and have a great day!
