On top of the various illustration commissions I’ve been working on lately, including a recent website design and development for a brilliant Swimming Club close to where I live, I’ve also finished this recent illustration which you can see below.
Asking creatives’ from around the world to submit art to promote Dawn French’s new book, ‘According To Yes’, I recently submitted this illustration into the competition.
The novel follows the character of Rosie Kitto, who is a bubbly, outgoing and eccentric character from the United Kingdom, who enters the life of Glenn Wilder-Bingham’s family in New York. It’s a big contrast to Rosie’s personality, as their family is strict, formal, who always play by the rules.
Taking this all into consideration, my illustration submission uses the book’s title to showcase these two personality types – one that is strict and formal (that goes along the New York block style grid), and one that is free and wild from these regulations.
Of course, I brought in references of Britishness to the piece with a small cup of tea – very British if you ask me!
I painted this illustration with gouache, watercolour, and polished and edited in Adobe Photoshop. It was a great project to work on, as I had total control of what I wanted to produce, and think about an idea that perfectly sums up the book.
I hope you enjoy this illustration, I’ll let you know how the illustration gets on, hopefully Dawn likes the piece! Why not take a look at my recent website design work for a local Swimming company?
