Haydn has created this editorial illustration reacting to Runner’s World article, ‘Could you be suffering from mental fatigue? Here’s what to do when running feels stressful’.
The article explains how the use of social media, work, stress and ‘modern life’ can impact your running performance, and how some runners may be suffering from mental fatigue. Giving tips and advice to combat this, and as a keen runner himself, Haydn felt passionate about this subject and produced this vibrant illustration. Using gouache, watercolour and edited digitally as his working mediums.
Haydn started this editorial illustration from his sketchbook (with an active focus on thumbnailing and mind mapping), which he does for every project that he receives. This allows him to think of creative ideas that he may not have originally thought of, with the thought process of creating an illustration that perfectly suits the article.
From here, Haydn develops the illustration with numerous studies on colour, composition, and making the idea work even harder, before cracking on with the final artwork, editing and finalising the piece.
