Editorial illustration makes a big part of Haydn’s portfolio. It’s a passion because you have to think conceptually, and outside the box. Creating this editorial illustration about a great Runner’s World article.
‘Could you be suffering from mental fatigue? Here’s what to do when running feels stressful’.
The article discusses how social media, work and stress impacts your running performance. Suggesting that some runners may be suffering from mental fatigue as a result. Giving running tips and advice to combat this problem throughout the article. As a keen and passionate runner, Haydn produced this editorial illustration. Using gouache, watercolour and edited digital as his working mediums.
Starting this editorial illustration from his illustration sketchbook, focusing on thumbnailing and mind mapping. This is the same process which he does for every project that he receives. These two processes allows him to think of creative ideas, some which he may not have thought of. With the brief close by, the idea(s) of creating an illustration has to suit the article at hand.
Haydn experiments with colour, composition, and making the idea work even harder. Before cracking on with the final artwork, editing and finalising the piece.
