I’ve always wanted to, and hope to within the future, visit Italy. It seems like such a nice part of the world, filled with lots of culture, things to see, and nice weather! As a map illustrator, the sense of travel has always been inside me. At least with illustrated maps, I get to travel the world (sort of!)
As a result of this, I wanted to produce an illustrated map of Venice, located in the northern part of Italy. I’ve always been interested in map illustration, and as an map illustrator, I love producing them!
I’ve showcased some of the city’s most famous landscapes for people to follow, including the classic ‘Rialto Bridge’, which is my personal favourite. Other landscapes include ‘St Mark’s Campanile’, ‘Ca D’Oro’ and ‘Peggy Guggenheim Collection’.
Map Illustrator: Venice
I wanted to express warmth and a sense of culture within this illustration, which hopefully I’ve achieved. This was painted with gouache and watercolour, which was then scanned into Photoshop for editing, with the typography added at the end.
This would make the perfect addition to an editorial or publishing setting, that tourists or people interested in Italy can explore themselves. I believe my style as a map illustrator works really well with map illustration. Be sure to check out more of my maps here!
I had a lot of fun producing this illustration, and it was interesting to find out what Venice has to offer!
