After reading a really interesting article about ‘triple constraints’, I wanted to produce an illustration which reacted towards it. The article talks about these ‘triple constraints’, which features throughout our life’s. When people say they want it all, they cannot realistically achieve this. For example, you can either go on a exotic and/or cheap and/or relaxing holiday, but not all three. With cooking, you can choose a tasty, and/or nutritious and/or easy to make dish. And the last example, you and your partner might choose to have full time jobs, but may have to admit that your house wouldn’t be as clean as you’ll hoped. People often try and bypass this and think they can have it all, but it just can’t happen. You can’t go an exotic and relaxing holiday without it costing a bit of money, however hard you look.
With my illustration, I wanted to concentrate on the spouses leaving their washing up behind them as they head off to their full time work. After developing and brainstorming the idea within my sketchbook, I have ended up with this illustration. It was really fun for me to work conceptually again, and it was a great illustration for me to work on.
