I hope you’re having a great start to 2016, and you’re not missing Christmas too much! I’ve been ultra busy at the moment, conducting general admin duties, sorting out a new illustration portfolio (which I’ll talk about a bit later on), and producing a brand new map illustration.
I’ve always had a keen interest in illustrated maps, and have built a fine collection of them on my illustration portfolio. From the legendary San Francisco, the captivating Brussels to this new illustration, I’m really happy to show you this new map of Berlin!
Highlighting the city’s main tourist attractions within the heart of Germany, from Berlin Cathedral, Reichstag Building to the East Side Gallery, it was a fantastic personal project to work on.
Initially working from my sketchbook, where I developed the illustration composition and overall feel, I then took my favourite composition and produced the final illustrated map. I produced the illustration with gouache and watercolour (my favourite mediums), and focused on a limited colour palette of blues, reds and whites.
I love working with limited colour palettes within my illustrations, as I feel this improves my colour, as I’m only limited to a certain number of colours.
Directory Of Illustration Portfolio
I also produced this illustrated map for another reason, that I’ve been eagerly waiting to tell you guys! I’m happy to announce that I now have my own illustration portfolio with Directory of Illustration. This new account hasn’t been set up yet, but as I can upload up to 100 images, I wanted to make the most out of this. So you can probably see me produce more map illustrations and other illustrations in the near future to make the most of this!
You can see the illustration details below, and I’ve also included a sketchbook development from the map illustration – I hope you enjoy!
