Hey guys! I hope you’re having a great week so far! As my illustrated maps grows, I’ve recently produced this map of Alfred Hitchcock’s filming locations in California, produced with gouache, watercolour and digital.
I’ve always had a big passion for illustrated maps, from the great city of Paris, London to Venice. It’s an area of illustration that I love, as it allows me to be creative and discover interesting parts of the world.
Showing The Bird’s, Vertigo, to Rear Window, this illustrated map features the classic films of Alfred Hitchcock. I love his films and directing style, so I thought I would combine my passion for maps and him together.
My Growing Collection Of Illustrated Maps
Like a lot of my illustrated maps from my illustration portfolio, I concentrated on a limited colour palette of blues, greens and reds. This works well for me as it allows me to focus on my colour, and not use every colour possible for my illustrated maps.
I firstly worked in my sketchbook to create this map illustration, sketching the idea, composition and what colours I will use. From here, I painted the artwork and scanned it into Photoshop for editing.
It was a great project as I found out where Hitchcock filmed most of his films, a lot of them in the L.A area. I hope to produce some more unique and unusual maps like this one in the future, because I believe there’s a lot of scope for maps like this.
Do check out my other illustrated maps, they’re becoming quite a collection. Most of my illustrations are produced with gouache, watercolour and edited digitally. This is a style which I’m growing day by day, and is a style that I’m becoming known for, or at least I hope!
