As I want to improve my type illustration, and learn more about it, I’m going to regularly post hand rendered typography, quotes, sayings, and anything that I find humorous. I find type really fascinating, and particularly enjoy creating a type based design from a classic quote.
This is so I can improve this area of illustration, which I am quite interested in developing. Today’s quote is from Albert Einstein, “A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new”. Einstein was a real genius of our time, and the quote really resonated with me.
It’s a quote that applies to all walks of life and everyday events, but no more so than illustration; if you don’t make mistakes you will never learn anything. It’s important to keep experimenting, even with commissions and tight deadlines. Hopefully this illustration blog has been a way to showcase my experiments, and let it continue!
How I Developed This Type Illustration
I’ve also included my sketchbook development of this type illustration in this post. This experimentation with typography will hopefully be uploaded to this illustration blog often, so you can see how I am progressing with it. Now the pressure is on to keep producing type illustration – challenge accepted!
I’m dedicated to keep producing this side of illustration, as I feel it can really help my overall design skills, so I’m all for it!
This type illustration was produced using pencil in my sketchbook, and scanned digitally to add colour (or lack of it – it’s B&W). You can get your hands on this type illustration by visiting my shop, available in a3 or a4.
