I’ve just finished this editorial illustration for PyschEd4Sport magazine, which is a new magazine which looks at psychology and motivation in sport, and uses research and collaborations to do this. I’m very excited to be a part of this up and coming magazine, which was very fun and interesting to illustrate for.
The article which I was responding to, talked about how coaches can impact the kids which they teach, either positively or negatively. It is the role of the coach to show a positive attitude within their coaching, and create an environment which makes the children gain confidence within themselves. After reading through the article, I wanted to show how positivity comes across within the article, and show this within my image.
My illustration shows a football coach, showing his tactics board to the kids, revealing a positive sign within the centre of the board. Having spoken to the editor of the magazine, we thought it would be good to also show the coach also being positive to the kids, and I took one of the ideas from my roughs, that being a ‘thumbs up’, and combined this with a sports coach holding up a clipboard (see roughs). So positivity is coming across throughout the whole of the piece.
I really enjoyed this piece and I was able to illustrate a sport which I particularly enjoy. I have also shown within this post, the roughs which I sent of to the editor, and also my sketchbook ideas, which I managed to think quite a lot of (hopefully not coming across as blowing my own trumpet). I really got into the painting and idea generation, and I’m very happy with the end result.
