On today’s blog post, I showcase my book cover project of ‘Lisey’s Story’ by Stephen King. I’ve got a soft spot for this book as I have just finished reading it, and thought it was a great book to read, so I thought, why not produce a book cover for it?

When I looked on the internet to see what previous book covers there were of the subject, there weren’t many to choose from or be inspired by, so this was another reason of why to do this project.

From brainstorming in my sketchbook (shown below), I came across the idea of showing a swimming pool (people who have read the book will hopefully understand this link), as it’s an important part of the story. I wanted it to be beautiful and simple for the reader to understand.

From the thumbnail stage, I was going to show a figure reflection within the water, but went against this while I was producing the final version, as I thought the water was powerful enough, and I’m glad I did this. The type was produced with pencil and scanned into Photoshop for editing and arranging.

It’s a book cover project that I loved, and I’m very happy with the end result. This book cover was produced with gouache, watercolour digitally enhanced. If you would like your own book cover illustration, contact me today to arrange your project with me.
