Produced with gouache, watercolour and edited digitally, this map illustration features Alfred Hitchcock’s filming locations around California.
The master of suspense, thrill, and classic films such as The Birds, Vertigo and the well known, Pyscho, have all been shot around this iconic American state.
Haydn is a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock, as he shots this films like artwork. Dramatic and thoughtful compositions are used throughout all of his films, and is clearly used within the film of Rear Window (Haydn’s favourite film of all time!).
As a result, Haydn was inspired to create a map illustration of Hitchcock’s filming locations, to retrace the steps that the director, James Steward to Anthony Perkins once stood.
Like all of this creative projects, Haydn developed the illustration from his sketchbook, creating colour roughs, and working out the composition of the piece. This is an integral part of the process for idea generation, getting thoughts onto paper and becoming familiar with drawing the portraits of Hitchcock and James Steward.
