Only God Forgives Poster Illustration

I’ve recently finished this poster illustration for the film, ‘Only God Forgives’ by Nicolas Winding Refn, which I thoroughly enjoyed producing and painting, the film doesn’t seem too bad either!

The poster was part of Little White Lies poster competition, to produce a poster about the film, which didn’t have many restrictions, you only had to include the film title if you wanted.

I went for quite a simple approach, with hopefully shows an effective result. I have changed Julian’s (the actor Ryan Gosling) pupils into shooting targets, which I seem to gauge when I watched the trailer. The film seems to feature violence, action and guns, so I wanted to get this across.

I’ve given the character a slightly ‘crazy’ look, as the plot of the story is about him finding his brothers killer. With the text I have also gone for a clean cut approach, what you see if what you get sort of thing.

Below this is a snippet of one of my sketchbook pages, showing my individual thumbnails and a colour rough, which is always important for me. Not sure when the winners will be announced, will check back here if I hear anything.
