Over the last few years, I gave myself the task of producing a portrait painting for all of the main characters of the hit television show, Breaking Bad. It’s a show that I loved when it was on, and is a firm favourite of mine.
Because of this interest and how much I liked the all of the characters from the show, I wanted to produce a portrait for every main character. At first, I thought it wouldn’t take me too long at all, but I didn’t realise just how long it would take me!
I really enjoy portrait painting, and it appears a lot within my illustration portfolio and sketchbook drawings. Illustrating the likes of Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and Gustavo Fring, I’ve added to this portrait painting series with these two illustrations of Mike Ehrmantraut and Hector Salamanca.
I particularly love the character of Mike, who’s deadly serious, gets the job done, and plays a key role in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
These two illustrations were produced using gouache, watercolour and edited digitally, and I’m really happy with how they have turned out. Like a lot of my illustrations, I based my colours on a limited colour palette and complimentary colours, which always seems to work well for me.
Breaking Bad Portrait Painting
Using purples and greens for Mike, and orange, yellow and blue for Hector, limited colour palettes are a continuing theme within my illustrations, and forces me to think about the colours I’m using.
If you would like to see more of my portrait painting on my illustration portfolio, do take a look! I’ve also illustrated the likes of Skyler White, Hank Schrader and Jesse Pinkman. I’ve also included some of my other illustrated Breaking Bad portraits below, so if you haven’t already checked out the other portraits, please do! I hope you enjoy this blog post about my portrait painting on Breaking Bad characters!
(P.S. I hope you like the last two images at the bottom of this page, it showcases all of my portraits in one image!)
