How To Hustle Like Crazy To Make A Powerful Difference

Want to discover how to hustle?

Crave to be a successful creative freelancer, business owner or career?

If you’re hungry and motivated, you probably answer both of these! Within this blog post you will discover my top 3 tips to help you hustle like crazy so you can make a powerful difference. Discover why hustle is so important and why hard work always pays off.

I publish a blog post just like this every fortnight, from regaining your motivation when all is lost to creating that killer illustration portfolio! See what you think of my previous posts by taking a look around. You are always welcome!

Why Is Hustle Important?

No one becomes successful by doing nothing (oh I wish it was that simple). Most of the time, it takes hustle and hard work to reach your goals. This was my first big mistake when I was new to freelancing and business!

You have to hustle to live a lifestyle of your choice, to live your passion, and to be your own boss.

How To Hustle

Warren Buffett, the man who is currently valued at 77.6 billion USD by Forbes (4th September 2017), hustled like crazy when he was just 7 years old. He got up at 4:30am to deliver papers around the neighborhood before School.

I wouldn’t of done that when I was 7!

That’s the thing, most people didn’t hustle this when they were 7 years old (and most don’t when they are 27!) He embedded this ethic at such an early age that when it came to adulthood, he knew what it was like to hustle.

Hustling is crucial as it makes any dream a reality.

Why People Resist Hustling

When I think of hard work, I think of the grind, I think of someone knuckling down and getting on with it, I think of motivation to power through the dark times.

You might think of different interpretations of the definition of hard work and hustle, but most people reframe from the hard work, as it is hard work!

Oxford dictionary depicts hustle as;

“(of a person) tending to work with energy and commitment; diligent.”

This perfectly sums up what hustle really is. You need energy, you need commitment and attention to get the job done (even though the job is never done).

Like Warren Buffett, you can get yourself ahead of the game by hustling and putting yourself on the line.

A disclaimer here: this isn’t to say that with hustle everything will work out perfectly and you will earn lots of money. Unfortunately it’s quite the opposite most of the time. You might fail, you will probably make mistakes and you could even lose money. However if you get back up, try again and keep fighting, your persistence will lead to success. Basically the motto of hustle is to never give up!

So you’re wondering how to hustle, here’s 3 epic tips to help you succeed.

Tip 1: Focus Man!

To hustle like crazy you need to eliminate distractions and focus. This is the only way that hustle can be achieved. Successful hustlers aren’t looking at Facebook every 10 minutes, they aren’t turning on the television, and they certainly aren’t wasting their time.

They are getting to the nitty-gritty of it all, and that’s when the work gets done.

When you’re intending to work, the number one thing is to put your phone, your email and any distractions out of reach. Put your phone on silent, and don’t touch it before you have successfully completed your task.

How To Hustle

Heck, don’t even touch it for several hours and see how much you get done!

According to Gloria Mark, it takes on average 25 minutes to return to the original task after a distraction.

25 minutes! That’s crazy!

If you check your email, Facebook or text your mates 4 times a day (and 4 is a low number!), it can take you up to an hour to get back into your original task! One hour of your day completely wasted. You don’t want that, and I certainly don’t want that.

The number one rule here is to put all digital distractions away. If you feel you need a break, resist the urge to look digitally to fuel your boredom, but get up and have a stretch before commencing work again.

If you just can’t resist the urge, put all distractions out of reach, and give yourself a ‘reward’ when the task is done by looking at your favourite Snapchat and Instagram accounts (or whatever you do with your time).

Eliminate distractions around you and focus.

Tip 2: Put Yourself On The Line & Get Out There

Hustling requires self confidence to succeed (don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you need to be the most confident person on Earth to hustle).

What I mean is that you need to put yourself on the line and get out there to hustle to your potential. If you have no self confidence and don’t put yourself on the line, you will never ring up that potential client, you will never attend that networking event, and you will never reach your maximum potential.

I might make it sound easy (and of course I definitely suffer with a lack of confidence every now and again, which is normal), it’s about overcoming your fears to hustle. If you’re scared of phoning up that one client, the only way you can overcome your fear is by doing it. If you do this it will help hustle successfully.

I recently watched a brilliant TEDtalk video presented by Dr. Ivan Joseph, which states that persistence, stopping negative self talk and practice you can become self confident. It’s a brilliant video which I highly recommend!

If you do something over and over again, and put yourself on the line then you will become so comfortable that it becomes natural. When you first started walking, crawling was a lot easier. Walking was hard, but your natural instinct was to walk, however hard it was. In the end, you managed to get on your two feet and start walking.

A miracle if we think about it!

If you want help with self confidence, I have recently published this blog post.

Put yourself on the line to maximise your hustle!

Tip 3: Network, With Everyone!

They say that it’s who you know, not what you know, and I couldn’t agree more.

When I think of hustling, I think of someone who connects with people, who gets amongst them and works with them. Whatever industry you find yourself, from illustration, design to owning a creative agency, it’s crucial that your network your ass off!

How To Hustle

Get among others by attending conferences and networking events, being active on Linkedin groups and making sure that relationship building is your priority.

If you can successfully master this skill (as it is a skill), you will have the world at your fingertips. There are certain habits that you need to build relationships, but if you’re shy about these things, this is where self confidence comes into play (refer to my last tip).

Everyone you meet can be a potential client, so embed networking into your ethos.

To learn how to hustle like a real champion; network, network, network.
